This spiffy chair looks as if it belongs in the dining room, but it’s actually a piece I finished this weekend that is headed to the Merry, Merry Market!
(That’s Mauer slinking out of camera range to the left; ever the lens-shy feline!)
This chair is understatedly elegant now, but it had more brassy beginnings:
Here’s how it looked when my gal pal Rachel fetched it off the curb as a gift! Once sassy, its tattered and torn seat, tacky tassels and over-bright braid seemed to be waiting for a phone call from the Shriners …
… They want their fezzes back!
First order of business: a new cushion and a good deglossing, followed by two coats of Annie Sloan French Linen paint and a waxed finish. This chinoiserie beauty got a classy and classic reupholstering with “Sultana Lattice” in Noir, a raised cotton velveteen on an off-white cotton duck.
The rest, as they say, is history. This chair is now fit to keep company with the finest of furnishings; clown cars need not apply!
